Metairie Pet Regenerative Therapies
Benbow Veterinary Services strives to offer you and your pets the best in veterinary care. To us, this means making regenerative medicine available to your pet; therefore, we've incorporated natural and safe therapies to relieve the pain of joint disease or injury, promote healing, and reduce recovery time using your pet's own blood. We offer the following regenerative therapies to help improve your pet's quality of life.
Proliferation Therapy, better known as Prolotherapy, is a nonsurgical treatment that stimulated healing which has been shown to assist with non-surgical ligament and tendon reconstruction. Prolotherapy works by stimulating the body's own natural healing mechanisms to repair injured musculoskeletal tissue.
Prolotherapy works by causing short-term, low-grade inflammation at the site of injection. After Prolotherapy injections, biopsy studies document ligament thickening, enlargement of the tendinosseous junction, and strengthening of the tendon or ligament. Prolotherapy can be implemented when musculoskeletal pain or injury is either unresolved or where enhanced healing is desired. It can be used years after the initial pain or problem began, as long as the pet is healthy. Because Prolotherapy works to repair weak and painful joint areas, it is a long-term solution that replaces the need for temporary measures such as medications or cortisone.

Canine Platelet Enhancement Therapy (C-PET) or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Prolotherapy
Canine Platelet Enhancement Therapy (C-PET) or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Prolotherapy consist of injections of concentrations of platelets above baseline levels. Cell ratios in normal blood contain only 6% platelets, however in PRP there is a concentration of 94% platelets. Enhanced healing is possible when platelet concentration is increased with PRP. Prolotherapy is like planting seeds in a garden; PRP Prolotherapy is like planting seeds with fertilizer. Since your pet is the donor and recipient, there are no immune reactions.

Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy is a non-invasive way to help manage your pet's pain due to osteoarthritis. The entire procedure: procurement of stem cells, processing, and joint injections are performed on-site the same day. Stem cell therapy is fast becoming one of the most widely used forms of regenerative medicine. In animals this procedure is being used mostly to help alleviate pain in arthritic joints, although other uses are currently being studied.
The procedure itself uses mature stem cells extracted from the patient's own adipose tissue. These cells are then combined with the patient's platelet rich plasma (PRP) and activated with an LED light before injecting them back into the joint(s). In theory the stem cells help repair the damaged tissue, and in-turn help to alleviate the pain caused by osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease, thereby allowing your pet to live a longer life with less pain.
Benefits of Regenerative Therapies:
- Minimally Invasive
- Same Day Procedure
- Naturally Promotes Healing
- Helps Unresolved Pain and Injury
- Can be Used Years after Initial Onset
- Long-Term Solution
- Replace Medications
