Metairie Pet Rehabilitation & Therapy
Benbow Veterinary Services is proud to announce the introduction of a Canine Rehabilitation Program.
Dr. Alison Kammer Weiss, a certified canine rehabilitation specialist, now complements our integrative medicine program. Dr. Weiss is a life-long resident of New Orleans, an LSU School of Veterinary Medicine graduate, and obtained her certification in Canine Rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.
Canine Rehabilitation is a specialized veterinary therapy dedicated to helping pets regain their quality of life after orthopedic surgery, traumatic injury, athletic injury, debilitating neurologic disease, or the general decline that occurs with aging. Rehabilitation focuses on the musculo-skeletal and neurological conditions of your pet, and provides short-term and long-term benefits. These benefits include increased joint mobility, increased strength, faster recovery from surgery or injury, improved agility, increased circulation, and decreased or cessation of pain.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Weiss will provide a detailed evaluation of your pet. Based on your pet's condition and diagnosis, this evaluation may include a gait analysis, measurement of muscle mass, and measurement of flexion/extension on joints. In addition an overall assessment of muscle condition, strength and lameness will be performed. She will then put together an individual treatment plan for your pet to rehabilitate them back to health and provide your pet with the best tools to regain quality of life.
Depending on your pet's condition, therapies may include specific therapeutic exercises (both in-house and at home), acupuncture, laser therapy, massage, neuro-muscular electrical stimulation, hot/cold therapy, and individual fittings for braces and harnesses.
Benbow Veterinary Services is proud to provide the best integrative care for your pets.
